In was an early Monday morning and Thwayya Apsara was busy writing up notes in the chalkboard. Planetology 101 Prof. Apsara Agenda: Where can I find a planet? What do planets eat? How much should a planet sleep? It goes without saying that in the future chalk boards can talk, as can toasters and pencils. These advances were all thanks to advancements in robotics which made adding artificial intelligence (AI) increasingly cheap to the point that it was added even in mundane objects that no one really needed AI for. There was a counter movement of individuals who fought back and insisted on organic pencils. In fact, Apsara was one of them. Apsara was from the planet Quijote, approximately fifty light years away. Her true form was a purple octopus like creature, but she ordinarily shape shifted into a human form to ease communication with the locals. In her human form Apsara looked like a thirty something mother that was trying to connect with her young teenage children and wore clothes two decades out of fashion. She smelled of incense and her hair was dyed a light purple. She was, among other things, a teacher here at the academy.

Joyce didn't know why or how she got here, but she was here. Her parents had insisted on her getting a proper education just in case the Federation didn't work out. Now, Joyce Thompson was not the sharpest pin in the haystack, but she was one of the shiniest. For example, her first day at The Academy was pretty rough considering the entire building was full of super nerds, and her fox ears and tail didn't exactly help her with friends... It seemed as if everyone looked down upon her limited space knowledge and she sometimes asked the stupidest of questions that never had anything remotely related to the subject they were talking about, but she shined on in her darkness. Back to the present now. She had a C- in every class, on the verge of failing. NEVER had she EVER been so bad at school. She usually got a B- or C+!
Joyce could tell she was disliked by a lot of her teachers. They were used to everyone looking human, looking normal, but with her giant fluffy tail and large ears distracting the class they could barely hold in their loathing for her. They’re just jealous, her mother would say. Not everyone can be unique. And maybe she was right. Almost all the kids here had generically the same type of power, if they even had one. Control robots, Super Intellect, Bending of metal, anything of that sort. She was the only one she knew who could change into different animals, talk to different animals, gain the abilities of different animals. At least until she took Planetology 101. Her teacher, Ms. Aspara, was an octopus. Yes, an octopus. Instantly Joyce felt a connection to her teacher, whether Ms. Aspara felt it too? She didn’t know. But she finally had someone who understood her power, since she was an octopus who could shift into a human, and humans were animals too!
Planetology 101. The class with her Highest grade. Seventy percent… Yup. Her parents were so proud.

"Now class.." Apsara said.
"In the last session I told you all to read from the astronomy textbook in preparation for today's class. I trust you all did."
She smiled as she looked around the room. It was doubtful that they had. Many things could change across times but some things, like the apathy of students, was a universal constant.
"So let us start with a review question. Where can you find a planet?"
She pulled her smile farther back.
"Any takers?"

Winston hesitantly raised his hand, then said the answer he thought was right. "Um... Space?" It was common sense really, you wouldn't find a planet inside another planet.

Joyce slapped her forehead. Why didn't she answer that? Of course it would be in space! Quickly she scribbled down her answer to the questions on the board.
Where can you find a planet? Space
What do planets eat? I have zero clue
How much sleep should a planet get? NONE! If a planet slept then it would be dark, and if it was dark then all life on that planet would cease existing!
She dropped her pencil back on the desk and continued to listen to the lecture.

Apsara smiled at hearing Winston's response. He was not wrong. Planets were in space. As was everything else in the universe. "Very good. Yes, planets are in space. Where exactly in space though? Let us start from the beginning. As you might all remember from last class, the birth of a star culminates in the creation of a cloud of star stuff as well. This star stuff is composed of every element possible. From Gold to Californium. All of this is created thanks to the super heat of the star creation process. Here I will draw it out on the chalk board..." "Aside from this cloud of stuff, a star is all alone in its infancy. Where do you all reckon the star's friends, the planets, are? Miss Thompson do you have a thought?"

Joyce looked to her left, then to her right. Then realized that the teacher was actually asking her. And Joyce had no idea how to answer that question. With a sigh, she took her best guess.
"Um, not formed yet?" She answered. "Isn't it that the, uh... Star stuff are pulled into orbit around the baby star by its gravitational pull and then somehow the particles in space start to get mushed together and, um... eventually form planets?"
